Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, through its subsidiaries, operates as a diversified utility company that primarily engages in regulated energy and unregulated energy businesses. The company operates through three segments: Regulated Energy, Unregulated Energy, and Other. The Regulated Energy segment provides natural gas distribution services to 52,686 residential and commercial customers, and 177 industrial customers in Delaware and Maryland, as well as 61,053 residential customers, and 6,314 commercial and industrial customers in Florida- electric distribution services to 30,966 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Florida- and natural gas transmission services to other utilities and industrial customers in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Florida, as well as offers swing transportation and contract storage services. This segment operates a 396-mile interstate natural gas transmission pipeline. The Unregulated Energy segment provides natural gas to commercial and industrial customers consisting of 2,486 customers in Florida, and 11 customers in the Delmarva Peninsula- distributes propane to 34,243 customers in Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, and southeastern Pennsylvania, as well as to 13,857 customers in Florida- and markets propane to wholesale customers, including independent oil and petrochemical companies, resellers, and retail propane companies in the southeastern United States. The Other segment offers information technology services and solutions for enterprise and e-business applications. Chesapeake Utilities Corporation was founded in 1859 and is based in Dover, Delaware.
