Great Plains Energy Incorporated, through its subsidiaries, engages in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity in the United States. The company also provides steam services in the Missouri area. It generates electricity utilizing coal, nuclear, natural gas, oil, and wind resources. The company has approximately 6,600 megawatts of generating capacity. It serves approximately 823,200 customers located in western Missouri and eastern Kansas comprising 724,200 residences and 96,300 commercial firms, as well as 2,700 industrials, municipalities, and other electric utilities. The company was founded in 1919 and is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
