The company also licenses certain technology and trade names worldwide. Its principal brands include Sherwin-Williams, Dutch Boy, Krylon, Minwax, and Thompson's Water Seal. The company sells its products through a network of company-operated stores, direct sales staff, and outside sales representatives to retailers, dealers, jobbers, licensees, and various third party distributors- and through mass merchandisers, home centers, independent paint dealers, hardware stores, automotive retailers, and industrial distributors. As of December 31, 2010, it operated 3,390 specialty paint stores and 564 branches. The company was founded in 1866 and is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio.
